Who We Are
Ave13Co is written by a small group of people who got tired of health information that was either too technical to follow or too excited to trust. We wanted somewhere that explains things the way a well-read friend would: honestly, without jargon, and without pretending to know more than anyone can.
Why we started
Health questions rarely arrive at convenient times. They come up the night before an appointment, after a confusing conversation, or when a new habit isn't sticking. We write for those moments, aiming to leave you a little clearer about your options and a little calmer about the next step.
How we pick topics
Most ideas start with a question we have been asked or have asked ourselves. If we find the answers online scattered, sales-driven or hard to read, it goes on our list. We then try to cover it in a way that fits on one page and ends with something you can actually do.
What we will always do
- Use plain language and explain any term we can't avoid.
- Separate general information from personal advice, and point you to professionals for the latter.
- Say when evidence is limited, mixed or still developing.
- Correct mistakes openly when readers point them out.
What we won't do
We don't invent statistics, borrow authority from experts we haven't spoken to, or promise results. We also don't claim medical qualifications we don't have. You can read more about this on our content standards page.
Behind the scenes
How an article reaches you
Each piece begins as a reader question, gets researched from public health guidance and well-established sources, and is then rewritten until it reads easily on a phone.
Before it goes up, someone who did not write it checks every claim and every caveat.

Our habits as writers
Four things we check every time
Plain words
If a sentence needs a dictionary, we rewrite it.
Balance
Benefits and drawbacks sit side by side, not in the small print.
Safety notes
Medicines, nicotine and mental health always come with a pointer to proper help.
Freshness
Older pages are reread and updated when general guidance moves on.
